[Well this was just perfect. All he had wanted was to take a nice, long nap after that last battle with Ryuukotsusei, and what did he get? Dumped off in some strange world, apparently. The city almost reminded him of Kagome's era, but it was also different. This place reaked of death and decay, and it almost felt like dark shadow was hanging over everything, sucking the life out of it. No doubt this was one of Naraku's little tricks.]

[There's no time to fret about this unwanted development, though. Inuyasha is very hard at work trying to figure important things out. Like what the hell this stupid technological contraption is supposed to be.]

[After a while, the PCD is accidentally turned on, just in time for those listening to hear Inuyasha talking to himself.]

-ooks like one of Kagome’s picture boxes, only this one’s smaller…

[He looks over the device for a bit longer, only to give a low growl and a short curse.]

Damn it all. [The PCD is tossed over his shoulder and quickly forgotten.] I don’t have time for this! I gotta find Kagome and the others. It’s faint, but I can definitely smell traces of Kagome and Sango around here. Not to mention Sesshoumaru and that bastard Naraku...

[Getting down on all fours, Inuyasha starts sniffing the ground, trying to pick up a better scent trail. This faithful puppy won’t stop until he’s found his friends.]

[He sits cross-legged on the ground, PCD in front of him while he taps a finger against his arm impatiently. Might occasionally throw in a leg jiggle just to make things even more annoying.]

What're you talkin' about? Of course I haven't been here before. I would've remembered if I had.

No, you wouldn't. I'm pretty sure this might even be your third or fourth time here, too, though I wasn't around for the first. When you go home... you lose all the memories of this place. And while we're here, time stops at home, so no one notices that we're gone.

...I've been here four months already and I guarantee you haven't noticed. Though that may be because I'm from a point in time further than yours.

[He's silent for a minute as he tries to absorb all this.]

What, you mean you might be from the future or somethin'?

Maybe. What's the last thing you remember?

The last thing I remember? Well, I guess we were just searchin' for Naraku. It was a day or so after I defeated Ryuukotsusei and learned the Backlash Wave.

[He wasn't gonna say anything, but...yeah, his curiosity is getting the better of him.]

So what happens?

[She smiles a little.]

The usual. We fight together. Naraku gets stronger, but so do we. There are hardships and problems, but we always overcome them. Tessaiga gets a new ability--it becomes the Red Tessaiga, which can cut through barriers. Right now we're fighting enemies called the Shichinintai, a band of seven humans that Naraku resurrected from the dead with shards. Several have been defeated. You and Kagome-chan are near a place called Mt. Hakurei, since we've managed to track down Naraku there--Houshi-sama and I are inside, fighting Kagura... and Kohaku, and as I recall, a horde of lesser youkai. [Just the slightest hitch in her voice and the smile fades quickly.] It's a holy mountain, so you can't enter. We haven't yet figured out why Naraku's incarnations can be there, though.

[It's cool to hear that his sword becomes even stronger in the future, but the news that Naraku is still out and about is troubling.]

Tch. So even after all that, we still haven't defeated Naraku? Damn...

....Well, none of that matters right now. If we can get Naraku's part of the jewel and then find a way to get out of here, then we won't have to worry about him no more.

[Sango looks almost horrified.]

InuYasha... even if we could get out of here... You can't mean to say that you would just leave Naraku here with the rest of these people!

[Because even though this plan is impossible... It's the principle of the thing.]

[Inuyasha starts to open his mouth, only to quickly snap it shut again. Sango was right; there was no way he could just leave the people here to deal with Naraku. Even if he didn't know them, it was just too cruel a fate.]

Then I guess we'll just have to figure out some way to defeat him here.

I know you're not going to like it, but here... he'll just come back. You can't die here.

And provoking him like that... he'd use innocents against us. It's not fair to let them be dragged into our battle.

This is Naraku we're talkin' about. He's gonna go after innocent people whether we take care of him or not, and I say we take him down until there's nothin' left of him to bring back.

It's not always that simple, InuYasha. And--I'm fairly sure that he's from the future compared to the both of us. His aura is stronger--can you feel it? Which means he's more powerful. Plus, Houshi-sama isn't here to help. He'd kill us before we could do anything.

And while you do come back, you lose something. A memory, an ability, a limb. For Naraku, all those things are so inconsequential... not so much for us. And we haven't been able to destroy him before--why would trying to now make any difference?

Not only that... but I've been here, in one place, for four months. At home we were always on the move, so we didn't have time for forming bonds. We were all each other needed. But here--well... there are people I--and Kagome-chan too, though her time has been shorter--have grown to care about. People Naraku will use against her and me and us. [People like Kohaku.] People we [I] can't bear to lose. Putting them in any more danger than they already are is... out of the question.

It doesn't matter who is or isn't here! I already said that Naraku will go after them no matter what we do.

[He glares at her through the screen.]

You and Kagome can go ahead and look after your friends. I don't give a damn what all you guys do, but I sure as hell ain't gonna sit back and let Naraku do whatever he wants. It may not seem like a big deal to you, but if killing him means that Naraku will start losin' his memories and abilities then I'm gonna destroy him as many times as I can!

InuYasha. What if you die? Have you even thought of what you could lose? You could not remember Kagome-chan. Or-- [she hates to play this card, but if it proves the point--] or Kikyou-sama, or me or Houshi-sama, or anyone else important to you, or you could lose the Bakuryuuha and then where would you be?

If you're going to fight him, you've got to make it count, at least. You can't just go rushing into things without a plan like you do at home.

[The corners of his mouth contort. The thought also crossed through his mind, but...what other choice does he have? He can't stand the thought of just sitting around and doing nothing.]

At least while you insist on being ridiculous. Naraku isn't the only enemy here, nor is it likely that he's even the strongest. [He just happens to be their enemy.]

[Four and a half months in Adstringendum. It's changed her--a lot. But in ways that only people who knew her before can discern.]

I am sick and tired of seeing people I care about hurt by things we can't control. There is absolutely no way in hell I'll let it happen via something in our control. You can't be stupid here, InuYasha, even if it seems like there's less at stake.

Just what the hell happened to you, Sango? You used to wanna destroy Naraku just as much as the rest of us. Now it just sounds like you've given up.

[That stops her dead. For a moment she's like a fish out of water, mouth working but no sound coming out, completely taken aback.]

...no, that's not true. I haven't given up. I never will. His destruction is my top priority, you know that. A lot may have happened, but that hasn't changed.

But here, it's pointless. Even if we did manage to eradicate him completely here, it wouldn't count at home. When we do destroy him, it's going to be costly. I don't want us to have to pay more than we already have, especially when in all actuality, it buys us so little.
