Character: Inuyasha
Age: Unknown (assuming around 200 years)
Canon: Inuyasha
Canon Point: End of the Band of Seven arc, after Kikyou has fallen into Naraku's miasma river and presumed dead (again)

Background:
Inuyasha has lived a very long and lonely life. Born between a human woman and a dog demon father, he is a half-demon who for the most part was accepted by neither humans nor demons. At a young age he's shown to live with his mother, but is always shunned by her peers, and after his mother's death he is left to wander alone and hunted by demons.

Flash forward to later in his life, he is seeking the Shikon no Tama (Sacred Jewel of Four Souls) in order to become a full demon. His search leads him to a village where the powerful priestess Kikyou resides, who is also the keeper of the sacred jewel. She kills demons who come seeking the jewel's powers, but when Inuyasha tries she merely stops him and does not slay him. After much time of following and watching one another, the two fall in love. Inuyasha even plans to use the jewel to become a full human so that they may both have a future together, but that is when Naraku comes in. After a few simple tricks, the couple's affections turn to hatred and distrust, and Kikyou pins Inuyasha to a tree with a cursed arrow, where he then sleeps for 50 years.

50 years later! Inuyasha is freed from his curse by Kikyou's reincarnation, Kagome Higurashi. She is able to pull the arrow from his chest, where he quickly awakens. Of course, due to all that happened not that long ago in his mind, Inuyasha immediately turns on the girl and once again attempts to steal the jewel in her possession. His efforts result in him gaining a cool new necklace, which at the simple command of 'sit' will have him being driven face-first into whatever he's standing on. Shortly after, the jewel is shattered and scattered across the country in hundreds of little fragments, and Inuyasha is left to the task of collecting them all with Kagome at his side.

During their travels, the pair becomes a group, taking in the fox demon Shippou, lecherous monk Miroku, and demon slayer Sango as allies and friends. However, Inuyasha also gains his fair share of rivals and enemies as well. There is Sesshoumaru, his full demon elder brother; Kouga, the wolf demon who seeks Kagome's affections; and, of course, Naraku, who is also gathering the jewel shards for his own evil purposes. Inuyasha even is faced with his reanimated lover, Kikyou, and so a good deal of the series is dedicated to his conflicting love for her and Kagome. For the most part, though, Inuyasha spends his time tracking down Naraku and his many incarnations so that they half-demon may destroy them.

More recently, compared to his canon point, Inuyasha and friends were headed towards Mount Hakurei on a lead that Naraku may be in that direction. However, they are attacked by the fearsome human mercenaries, the Band of Seven, who were once executed and then brought back to life by Naraku. Through many battles with them, Inuyasha did manage to enter the spiritual mountain and locate his main enemy, but was unable to defeat him before Naraku gained a new and even more formidable form. Naraku escaped from the group out of the mountain, and in his pursuit Inuyasha finds that the villain's first act was to attack Kikyou and knock her into a river of his miasma. Naraku escapes soon after, and Inuyasha is left grief-stricken on his knees as he laments being unable to save his love once again.

Personality:
Temper: The first thing most people notice about Inuyasha is just how foul-tempered he is. The half-demon is quick to anger and will snap at (and even beat up) pretty much anyone he takes offense to, even children and the elderly. However, this is mainly a defensive he puts up in order to keep others away, and it is even more prominent at the beginning before he learns how to trust others and gain friends. After that, his harsh words and physical abuse can be pretty easily brushed off by the receiver so long as they aren't a villain.

Stubbornness: If Inuyasha doesn't wish to do something, good luck forcing him to. It doesn't matter if he or others are put in danger as a result, he most certainly will do as he pleases. This has manifested itself many times, but a particular example is near the beginning of the series when he, Kagome, and Nobunaga are faced up against a toad demon who has possessed the body of a young lord. Inuyasha is adamant about slaying the monster, even if it means killing the lord at the same time, and when the others order him to find another way that will save the human, he sits his ass down and refuses to budge until they cave into his wishes. Even seeing Nobunaga hurt and Kagome chased around by the demon doesn't sway him. And if, by some miracle, someone is able to force Inuyasha into something, expect him to bitch and moan the whole way through.

Arrogance: Inuyasha certainly has his fair share of arrogant moments, often giving an 'no one can possibly defeat me' sort of attitude at the beginning of a fight and intentionally provoking his opponent, only to be shocked when they're somehow able to beat the snot out of him. At this point he will turn serious and find some way to defeat his opponent, but this really just serves to expand his ego and keep him from learning his lesson in the long run.

Trust issues: Due to how lousy his childhood was, not to mention the event that happened with Kikyou, Inuyasha takes some time in order to gain trust in a person, and even by the end of the series his trust really only runs deep with a handful of individuals. Even after traveling with Kagome and Shippou for a decent amount of time, he couldn't even reveal to them his darkest secret, that he becomes fully human on the nights of the new moon, until the transformation actually happened. And even though Kagome, Shippou, Miroku, and Sango can all be considered trustworthy friends now, having any of them be part of the group was never Inuyasha's intention at the beginning. He stuck with Kagome out of necessity to find the jewel shards at first, and Kagome was the one to insist that the others be part of their team despite Inuyasha's objections. Though it certainly didn't help that the latter three entered the picture by either attempting to steal from or kill him...

Simple-minded: While he can't be considered a moron, Inuyasha definitely possesses a one-track. His main drive lies in finding jewel shards and hunting Naraku, and he is quick to annoyance and frustration whenever he is forced to stop or deviate off this path. In addition, topics of conversation that are too complicated for him to understand are either ignored entirely or result in him thinking that the topic bearer is mocking/trying to pick a fight with him. He doesn't give much thought to what words come out of his mouth, either, quick to insult those around him by speaking what he believes to be the truth, and only regretting it after a good 'sitting'.

Loyalty: To those who have manage to worm their way into his heart, Inuyasha will remain loyal to and protect them until the end of days, assuming they don't betray him in some way. If they are in trouble, Inuyasha appears in the nick of time to save them, watch their backs, and provide them with words of encouragement to stop being so stupid and toughen the hell up. He wants to avoid seeing anyone else he cares for die no matter what the cost, and if he believe he's failed at that act then his grief may even manifest itself into tears (though this is rare).

Shy: While definitely blunt in many aspects, 'shy' can most certainly be applied to Inuyasha when it comes to romantic relationships. He has never been known to say 'I love you' outright, even when he cares deeply for someone (Kikyou and Kagome), though he will say or do something to convey this well enough should he need to. Receiving physical displays of affection, even something as simple as Kagome leaning against his shoulder, often results in him blushing and/or scratching his cheek nervously, and should anyone suggest that he feel romantically about someone will often have Inuyasha clamming up and attempting to change the subject. Should they not respect this, be certain that he will either get pissed off or leave.

Helpful: Yes, Inuyasha does actually have a kind, helpful side to him, even if it's accompanied by a great deal of griping. Often it will manifest itself whenever humans are in grave danger. When a village is being attacked and innocent people slaughtered, Inuyasha and his friends will rush right in to save the day. When a little girl was trapped in a burning building, Inuyasha burst in to pull her out. He can't stand seeing the strong tormenting and murdering those who are weak, and is sure to teach those bullies a lesson. These more serious incidences will not have him complaining; that is reserved for if someone asks him to do a simple kindness, like carrying an injured person on his back. Because that right there is the real inconvenience.

Abilities:

Physical: Super speed, super strength, enhanced senses (particularly hearing and smell), faster healing (can even regenerate destroyed organs or eyeballs), tougher skin (can't be cut through normal means such as glass or wires)

Robe of the Fire Rat: red kimono left to him by his father; repels fire

Iron Reaver Soul Stealer: powerful attack using his claws

Blades of Blood: covers his claws with his own blood, then sends it out as powerful slashes

Tetsusaiga: sword left to him by his father; appears to be a rusty sword initially, but when wielded by a half-demon who wants to protect humans, it transforms into a gigantic fang-like blade

Wind Scar: slash from the Tetsusaiga that can slay 100 demons in one stroke

Backlash Wave: wraps up a demon's energy in the Wind Scar and hurls it back at them

Red Tetsusaiga: can cut through barriers

Tetsusaiga's Sheath: can act as a barrier to repel demons or block their attacks

Alignment: Thras; Inuyasha will go up against anyone to defend himself or those he cares for, even if he is outnumbered or outclassed. Fear only comes from the thought of losing the ones he is so desperate to protect. In an (admittedly filler) episode, he is even selected to represent 'courage' in the creation of a new Shikon Jewel.

Other:
Inuyasha does have a couple of other forms beyond his usual half-demon self; a human state and a full demon state.

On the night of the new moon, Inuyasha will turn into a complete mortal, complete with black hair, violet eyes, and human ears. On top of that, all supernatural powers will disappear, including his ability to fully wield his Tetsusaiga. This is a time where he is at his weakest, and so he keeps this day of transformation a closely-guarded secret only known by his close friends and a few others.

On the other end of the spectrum, Inuyasha also is able to transform into a full demon...in a sense. When his life is in danger and Tetsusaiga is out of his reach, his demon blood will take over and he will transform, this time gaining blood red eyes with blue irises and jagged purple markings on his cheeks. He becomes significantly stronger, but at the same time loses all reasoning and will attack virtually anyone, even humans. It's stated that should this happen to him multiple times, he will turn into a killing machine and will not stop until he himself has been vanquished.
